Cougars Fall Just Short in 3-2 Battle Against DeKalb

The Central Noble girls varsity tennis team battled hard but came up just short in a 3-2 loss to DeKalb. The Cougars picked up two strong wins in singles play. At No. 1 singles, Kayla Kreger bounced back after dropping the first set to defeat Charlotte Hissong 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. Katie Mains also delivered a dominant performance at No. 3 singles, cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Lilia Whitted. Whitney Weaver competed at No. 2 singles but fell to Kai Nagel in straight sets, 3-6, 0-6. In doubles action, Ashley Hernandez Vega and Rheanne Sumagaysay fought hard at No. 1 doubles but were defeated 4-6, 3-6 by Natalie Dunn and Calleigh Yankey. The No. 2 doubles team of McKynzie Carmien and Molly Daniel also came up short, falling 0-6, 1-6 to Grace Pfister and Elle Armstrong. With the match tied heading into doubles, DeKalb secured the overall win by sweeping both doubles flights. At the junior varsity level, the Cougars were defeated 3-0. Mack Lortie dropped matches at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles, falling 0-8 to Aubrey Dunn and 1-6 to Bella Rice. In doubles play, Ella Miller and Addie Perlich were defeated 1-8 by DeAnna Waldon and Zoe Niles. Central Noble will look to bounce back in their next match as they continue their season.
